The League City Garden Club, November Business Landscape of the Month was nominated by club president Kimberly Nitzschke.  Located near FM518 and Park Avenue, the owners of Hair I am and Vintage at Heart are very hands on when it comes to their landscaping.  Their love of roses and hibiscus can be seen at the entrance to the business.  The two business are colorfully painted and accessorized with bright and interesting garden art.  Yard art is very visible around the property.

October Business Landscape of the Month: Dental Practice of Robert S. Warwick DDS

The League City Garden Club is pleased to recognize the October Business Landscape of the Month, Cosmetic and General Dentistry, Robert S. Warwick, DDS. This business was nominated by Julie Engleman who mentioned that she would sit in the treatment chair and look out the window to a beautiful tropical garden maintained by Dr. Warwick. Though, Lynn's Landscaping maintains the business plantings, Dr. Warwick is a very "hands on" gardener.  The employees were thrilled the business was recognized for their landscaping.  Tropical plants and garden art that features "dental hygiene" make this landscaping distinctive.

May Business Landscape of Month: La Brisa on the Creek - Mexican Bar & Grill

May is a month of special events and La Brisa Mexican Bar and Grill is a popular destination for celebrating those occasions.  Located near 518 and Interstate 45, the business is a good place to meet for large groups or family outings.  The big patio features sand volley ball plenty of party space.   The property features tropical plants, palms and a large metal bull in the entry landscaping.   An employee is the full time gardener. Congratulations to La Brisa as the League City Garden Club, Business Landscape of the Month.

April Business Landscape of the Month: Dental Practice of Dr. Cynthia R. Castille and Dr. M. Gerard Castille

April could mean Azalea season in the south.  As you drive by the Dental office of Dr.’s Castille, the large mature pink and white George Tabor azaleas reach out and grab your attention.   With hundreds of blooms on each plant, the area is a mass of color.  The Castille office is a perfect landscape for April. 

In addition to the beautiful azaleas, the landscaping includes knock out roses, Pecan Trees, and crepe myrtles.  Raised beds are planted with squash, eggplants, okra, tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers.  Meyer Lemons, Elbert’s Peach and Clementines are growing around the property.  Vegetables and fruit are a surprising, welcome addition to the Business Landscape of the Month.

Dr. Castille and Dr. Castille were recognized in 1996 as the Green Beautification Award, Business Yard of the Month, “For Encouraging Pride in the Community by Displaying a Willingness to Keep League City Clean and Beautiful”.  Fourteen years have past since that award and the business is still “Keeping League City Clean and Beautiful”.  You may have missed the azaleas this year, but you have not missed a League City Proud Business.  

    

March Business Landscape of Month: League City Chiropractic and Sports Medicine

As you drive down Main in League City, look for the League City Chiropractic and Sports Medicine building at 1200 East Main, League City 77573.  Jay Heintz D.C., Brian Sansalone D.C.  and their staff have created a colorful landscape around their active business.  It was a pleasure to recognize their hard work and they were thrilled to be recognized.  Roses, loropetalum, fox tail fern, colorful grasses, and crape myrtles are used as foundation plantings along with sitting rocks and a dry river bed.  Colorful plantings of dianthas and petunias provide seasonal color. 

Several referrals for the League City Chiropractic office have been received in the past for the business landscape of the month.  Congratulations to the League City Chiropractic and Sports Medicine as the March Business landscape of the Month. 

     

February Business Landscape of the Month: Furie Petroleum Company LLC

South Shore Harbor is a beautiful home to many businesses, including Furie Petroleum Company LLC. Furie is an independent company exploring for oil and gas in Alaska. The office at 100 Enterprise Ave. is owned by Schafer Realty, the property manager.

The Furie office building is landscaped with an alley of Crape Myrtles, sculpted bottle brushes, encore roses, variegated gingers, and bananas around the entrance of the building; a private patio includes citrus trees, hibiscus, fox tail ferns and oleanders. With tropical plants in the landscape, evergreens make the landscape attractive year around and offer a refuge for wildlife. Bottlebrushes are attractive to many pollinators and it is good to see them being used in commercial landscapes.

January Business Landscape of the Month: Select Jeeps

Many of us may not be shopping for Jeeps, but Select Jeeps at 615 Hwy. 3 South is a dealer that specializes in the popular off road vehicle. The business is landscaped to display the off road capabilities of their product. With native Texas plantings and large boulders, the jeeps are right at home. Mass plantings of knock out roses create an inviting entrance to the property. A rustic gazebo and western art are featured throughout the property.

December Business Landscape of the Month: Joe Pugh Insurance Agency

The holiday season is a festive opportunity for League City business to "Deck the Halls".  If you take a drive down Main street, notice the buildings outlined with colorful lights, ribbon wrapped lamp posts and garland strung with bright red bows.  So many buildings have put on their holiday cheer, it was difficult to select just one to recognize as the December Business Landscape of the Month.  Congratulations to all of the League City business for civic pride; it certainly creates a festive League City.

The Joe Pugh Insurance Agency was chosen as the December Business Landscape of the Month.  The Agency is in the heart of League City under the old oak trees.  As a former residence, the building has been maintained as commercial establishment at 921 East Main Street.  The landscaping is by BTC Landscaping and features gardenias, manias, lorapetulum, holly fern and the cast iron plant.  On the porch, potted plants and hanging baskets create an inviting welcome.  The building is sporting an evergreen wreath, bright red ribbons and Christmas bells along with lights.

Weeks Service Company: November Business Landscape of the Month

The League City Garden Club is recognizing Weeks Service Company as the November Business Landscape of the Month. 

Weeks is a long time League City business that was established in 1972. 

The business relocated to the current location two years ago, and it was then the landscaping was designed by Lynn’s Landscaping. 

The plantings include several different palm trees, oleanders, hibiscus, plumbagos, lariope, yucca, sago’s and crepe myrtles.  Enhancing the planting beds are a nice selection of sitting rocks. 

Weeks is a family company that leads the way in the residential and commercial electrical, heat and air conditioning business. 

Headcover's Unlimited: October's Business Landscape of the Month

Hidden in the historical area of League City is a family business that may be best known on the internet, but maintains a “good neighbor” image.


With majestic oak trees on the property, landscaping a shade garden is a visual treat with textured plants of wisteria, magnolias, ivy, cannas, and azelas. Oleanders, roses and lantana are featured in the sunlit landscaping.

The Grand Villas: September Business Landscape of the Month

The “Business Landscape for September” was nominated by a League City Garden Club member.  The Grand Villas at 1800 Hwy 270 are 3-year-old luxury apartment homes.  The property is part of Tuscan Village development; the Property Manager is Lavondra Connally and Frank Williams is the Maintenance Supervisor.

The plantings are a mix of tropical and traditional.  The Italian Cypress, signature tree for Tuscan Village, is an anchor planting.  Wisteria, bottlebrush trees, and a wide variety of palm trees create a lush tropical environment.  The property is next door to a retention  
pond where wildlife and open spaces extend the visual living space.  Amenities include boat parking, garages, car care area, picnic area, gym and club room.   The pool, cabanas and bar-b-que are inviting and lushly planted with large potted plants.

Grand Villas have been selected as the BLOM to kick off the new garden club year.  Congratulations to them and the staff at Grand Villas.  

 

Jimmy Changas: May Business Landscape of the Month

Jimmy Changas is a new, Mexican food restaurant in League City at the Victory Lakes shopping area at 2504 Gulf Fwy. This is a family friendly place that is great for kids with free ice cream and a giant play area.

For the adults, there is a beautiful patio for outdoor dining, or a lively choice of tables and booths for indoors. The popular Houston restaurant was designed with a tropical landscape and a sense of fun. Banana trees, palms and sago’s anchor the plantings with an abundance of colorful annuals.

Heather Alexander, one of the Managers at Jimmy Changas, met with the League City Garden Club members Jane Turner and Judy Anderson to talk about the landscaping. Rocks, sitting benches, and lush tropical plantings have created a welcoming environment for relaxing and dining.
